"Kudos" means praise, honor, or recognition for something done especially well. It comes from the Greek word "κῦδος" (kydos), which meant "glory" or "fame." Unlike an award or a trophy, it is not something you can hold in your hand. It is the approval or respect someone gets because of an achievement.

Interestingly, "kudos" is usually treated as a singular mass noun, even though it ends in "s." People often use it like the word "praise." For example, you would say, "Kudos to her for winning the competition!" or "He got a lot of kudos for his work."
