The word "kindly" is usually an adverb. Most often, it describes an action done in a gentle, caring, generous, or helpful way. If someone says, "He kindly offered to help," the idea is not just that he helped, but that he did so with warmth and goodwill. In this sense, the word adds a human feeling to the action.

"Kindly" is also often used in requests, especially in formal English: "Kindly reply by Friday" or "Kindly take your seats." Here it does the job of "please," but with a more official or old-fashioned tone. It can make a request sound polite, yet the tone depends on context. In friendly use it sounds courteous; in a sharp sentence like "Kindly be quiet," it may sound cold or passive-aggressive.

There is also a less common adjective use. A "kindly voice," a "kindly face," or a "kindly old man" describes someone or something that feels warm, gentle, and caring. So the word has two main lives: it can describe how an action is done, and it can describe a person, expression, or manner that shows kindness. In modern daily conversation, the adverb form in requests is less common than "please," but it still appears often in writing, notices, customer service messages, and formal speech.
