The word infundibulum sounds complicated, but it simply refers to something shaped like a funnel: wide at one end and narrow at the other. Think of the tool you use to pour liquid into a bottle; that shape gives you the basic idea. In anatomy, it usually names a passage, opening, or stalk with this shape. For example, the pituitary gland has an infundibulum, or pituitary stalk, that connects it to the hypothalamus in the brain. You might also hear about the infundibulum of the fallopian tube, the funnel-shaped part near the ovary that helps receive the egg.

Imagine a graceful funnel guiding something from a wider space into a narrower one. That's essentially what an infundibulum is. The word comes from Latin, meaning "funnel," and it describes an anatomical structure with that characteristic shape: wider at one end and tapering toward the other.
