forwarder

A2
nounadjective

Pronunciation

UK

  • /fˈɔːwədə/

US

  • /ˈfɔrwərdər/

Description

Imagine you're making beautiful pottery, but you do not have the time or know-how to get it safely to a shop far away. That is where a forwarder comes in. In business, this is usually a person or company that arranges the shipping of goods. They book transport, deal with paperwork, and help the goods move from one place to another. They usually do not carry the goods themselves. In other settings, the word can also mean a service that sends something along, such as an email forwarder or a call forwarder.
