It gives the roofline a neat finish and helps protect the structure from weather. You may also see the word in retail for the flat panel above a shop window where the store's name is shown.

But fascia is not limited to construction. In anatomy, it is a band or sheet of connective tissue beneath the skin and around muscles, organs, and nerves throughout the body. It works like an internal layer that supports parts of the body, separates muscle groups, and helps movement happen smoothly. You may hear doctors or physical therapists talk about fascia when discussing pain, movement, or stretching techniques.

In some contexts, especially in British English, the front panel of a car dashboard can also be called a fascia. Across these uses, the idea stays similar: it is usually a band, layer, or panel that covers an edge, supports what is behind it, or gives a clean visible surface.
