Extravagance describes behavior, spending, or style that goes far beyond what is necessary, sensible, or moderate. It is more than simple generosity. It suggests a lack of restraint, with a strong pull toward luxury, display, or excess. Imagine a king ordering a palace covered in gold just to show his power. That is extravagance at its clearest.
