It is used to extract reactive metals like aluminum and magnesium from their ores, to purify copper for electronics, and to "electroplate" objects with a thin layer of metal (such as adding a chrome finish to car parts). It is also the primary method for producing chlorine gas used to disinfect drinking water.
Today, scientists are exploring electrolysis as a key to the "green" economy, using it to create clean hydrogen fuel from renewable energy sources. This makes it a potential solution for sustainable energy storage. While the science behind it might seem complex, electrolysis is a fundamental chemical process with far-reaching implications for modern technology and our environmental future.
