Cohesion refers to the act or state of being united as a whole; it is the fundamental quality of sticking together. It can describe physical connections—like the cohesive forces between water molecules that create surface tension, allowing insects to walk on water. But the concept extends far beyond physics.

In social contexts, cohesion describes the degree to which members of a group are connected and work well together.
